Volunteers in Ljubac
Renewing Ljubac: Volunteers Restore History and Nature
In the village of Ljubac, artisans and volunteers came together to revive historic walls and create a natural pool. For two weeks, they worked together to restore and build while adopting sustainable practices.
The goal was twofold: to preserve heritage while implementing environmentally friendly solutions. With the strength of their arms and aided by simple basic tools reminiscent of older times, these volunteers contributed to this adventure every day, leaving their mark with the stones they brought from their villages to incorporate into their work.
Despite the difficulty of the work and the unpredictable weather, each volunteer was exemplary and brave in their task. They learned to work with local artisans using clay, earth, wood, stones, and more. Volunteers also made discoveries with the surrounding wildlife and flora, sometimes with pleasure, sometimes with caution, but each of them can return home nourished by a beautiful experience and a sense of accomplishment.
This project was not just a physical renovation, but also a community-building experience. Participants of all ages and from all over Europe shared stories and moments, thus strengthening intergenerational bonds.
At the end of their volunteer period, the almost finished walls and pool stood as a testament to collective success. This project proved that unity is strength, offering a tangible example of how collaboration can create a lasting impact for the future. These achievements will endure in Ljubac and will forever be adorned with another corner of Europe thanks to the stones each of them brought back.
In this project, many stones had a face, but what mattered most to us was to see the faces of the volunteers with smiles. We thank them for their work and hope once again that the experience will occur here in Ljubac.
